Al-Khobar is a small town located in Eastern Province. Since situated far from the capital of Saudi Arabia, you wouldn’t think the city has much to offer. If there’s anything else to do aside from grabbing offers in the mall, it’s to enjoy different kinds of cafes and restaurants. Few years ago, Al-Khobar didn’t have much options when it comes to dining out, but on my recent visit, there are a lot of newcomers in the food scene which I cannot explore one by one. Especially the cafes! Here’s a list of my current personal favorite cafes and restaurants you should try when in Eastern Province. The list is in random order and doesn’t represent the view of anyone.
Not exactly in Al-Khobar but in Mall of Dhahran, this global coffee chain continuous to deliver high quality food and drinks along with excellent service. My favorite is their cinnamon vanilla latte and the oh so fluffy mango choco cheesecake that I got for free because of their ongoing promotion. The Chef’s Specials are worth trying too and comes in really huge serving!

Address: Mall of Dhahran – Gate 11 (Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Road) Dhahran
2. Madeleine French Bakery & Pattiserie
Madeleine wins the award for ‘Family Favorite’. It’s the perfect place to bring your family or close friends either for breakfast, lunch or dinner since the chances of disappointment is zero to none. Quality food and excellent service is what you’ll get from this cafe. Don’t forget to try their pastries and desserts. The place is always packed with diners no matter what time of the day it is. I guess that says something, right?

3. Ble cafe
Another favorite cafe in Ble Cafe Khobar. You could just search this cafe on instagram and you’ll be seeing tons of food photos that look like it came straight out of a food magazine. This lovely cafe is known for its vintage floral themed interior as well as good breakfast food. Definitely the choice for having quality time with family or friends for weekend brunch.

4. Pink cafe
Feeling all girly? Check out Pink Cafe. So cute right? The walls, the chairs…everything’s colored in pink! Order a coffee (the coffee’s not pink though. Thank God) and the server dressed in all white tuxedo looking like a real butler will serve it to you on a golden tray with a delicious complementary cookie. This cafe is a perfect stop for a coffee break while shopping in Mall of Dhahran.
Operating hours: 9:00AM-11:00PM
Address: Mall of Dhahran
5. Mon Amor
Mon Amour is a new cafe in Khobar that’s worth mentioning. The cafe is currently on its soft opening as of writing. The interior is designed with that of a chic Parisienne floral furnitures in feminine colors. Once seated, the server will spread real red rose petals in the table which gives a relaxing aroma. Perfect for couples looking for privacy. We tried their Quinoa Salad and Pink Penne Pasta which I would highly recommend. We also had the Arabic Red Wine, which was of course non-alcoholic.
Operating hours: 12:00NN-11:00PM
Address: Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Road Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Road, Al Hizam Al Akhdar, Al Khobar
6. Circle Cafe
Circle Cafe as stated on their inspiring story in the menu, is a cafe started by two women from UAE and got the idea of their coffee chain while in the USA. What I love about its interior is it feels like home. You can find different sizes of table. One even is a dining table that could probably fit 6-8 people which is suitable for groups. They also have really nice couch with piled vintage travel suitcase as a table. I call it the wanderlust table and it’s my favorite spot. Aside from really good coffee, their salads and other dishes are also worth trying.
Operating hours: 9:30Am-11:30PM
Address: Fouad Center – Cornish Rd، Al Khobar

7. Sunroom Cafe
Sunroom cafe is one of the newcomers in Khobar’s food scene. Located along with the other high end restaurants and cafes in Corniche, this upscale cafe gives its customers a relaxing view of the sea coupled by its warm and modern interior. Upon entering the cafe, there were alot of Arab women dining. Most of them having cold drinks and dessert to combat the humidity outside. We tried their canelloni, sandwich with overloaded ham, apple & honey salad, calamari, and lastly the 48H Rib which was the most tender ribs I’ve ever had. Their drink selection was also loaded with healthy options which is good for those who are health conscious.
Operating hours: 9:30AM-11:30PM
Address: Al Sahil, Al Khobar
8. Lobby Lounge at Le Meridien
The lobby at the Le meridien is one of my favorite cafe in Al-khobar. The place is very spacious, well designed, and since it’s located in a five star hotel, prices could go up a bit but the service is par up to hotel standards. Although most of the hotel cafe’s are geared towards business customers, I find them a great choice if you want somewhere really quiet and not crowded.
Operating hours: 24 hours
Address: Al Salem Boulevard, 8560 Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Road, Corniche, Al Khobar

Last but not the least, my new favorite breakfast place in town is Scramble. The cafe is located near Al-Rashid Mall. We were told that we were the first Filipinos to dine in this bright and contemporary cafe which was a surprise. I have actually dined here twice already ever since discovering it because I couldn’t get enough of their ambiance and brekafast food. We ordered Eggs Benedict, Berries Pancake, Caramel Toast and Labneh. I’ve tried their lavender latte and red velvet latter while my parents had signature mocha and cafe latte as usual. All were excellent. The place is not crowded which is a big plus. Service is great as well!
Operating hours: 7AM-3PM
Address: Al Ulaya, Al Khobar
